THE DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING

Phase One of the Discipleship Pathway is launched within the prison system at a low-security facility in Kentucky. Within this setting, Freedom Lake Ministries creates an intentional discipleship community where men are introduced to Christian practices that nurture spiritual growth and lasting transformation. While many participants are engaged in the facility’s Substance Abuse Program (SAP), which lasts a minimum of 183 days, our ministry offers voluntary opportunities for men to explore faith through 3Thirds Discipleship Training, fellowship activities, and Christ-centered guidance. Through this collaborative environment, we aim to provide holistic support by helping men engage in prayer, Scripture, and community as they begin their spiritual journey toward freedom in Christ.

During this phase, the primary objective is to introduce men to Jesus and support their exploration of Christian discipleship within an intentional spiritual community. They are encouraged to embrace Christ’s transformative power and develop daily rhythms of faith guided by the Holy Spirit. Through engagement with Scripture and honest reflection, participants begin to recognize deeper spiritual needs, learn to seek God’s will, and resist worldly influences. As they grow, many are invited to encourage and mentor others, strengthening their own spiritual maturity while helping cultivate a culture of discipleship that continues beyond the facility walls.

Many of the men we serve have never experienced a deep connection with Christ or a community that encourages spiritual exploration. Our focus goes beyond addiction by helping men examine the deeper heart issues beneath life-controlling struggles through God’s Word and discipleship relationships. Substance abuse is often a symptom of deeper spiritual disconnection rather than the root problem.

Through Christian practices such as prayer, Scripture meditation, testimony, and mentorship, men are guided to confront these deeper issues and discover healing through Christ. As they begin building a genuine relationship with Jesus, they learn their need for a Savior and begin to see how faith reshapes identity and purpose.
